Reading Matter for Soldiers—An Appeal. An immediate appeal for literature for eoldiers is made by Miss Rothenbcrg, librarian, of the Sydney Street Soldiers' Club. A very special need for books and reading matter has suddenly arisen,' and Miss Eothenberg asks that all contributions be sent not later than Tuesday to the' Soldiers': Club, Sydney Street, where they will at once be packed; • The need is a very real one, and it is,_hQped that there will be a ready-and, above all, a quick response in answer to the appeal. Camp Frind, disbursed upon comforts, outings, and various other means of making' time pass a little more brightly for convalescent soldiers at Home,,, is now setting to work to organise ja' further' amount of money to bewailed the "Clara Rogers Comforts Fiuid," s which Miss .Rogers, who is at Walton-on-Thames,. and who had the. administration of the previous amount, will use for the benefit of the men in hospital. At the meeting which was held on Friday evening at tho Y.M.C.A., Mr. Theo. Hills presiding, it
was decided to organise a flower day and concert, to he neld in all probability at the end of the month. Mrs. Hislop was appointed organiser of the flower day, and tor the organisation of the concert the following were appointed a committee:—Mrs. Histop, Messrs. Hills and Spiro. The following general committee, was elected:—Mesdames Hislop, Cassidy, Rountree,' Ryan, Miss M'Gill, Messrs. Bloxam, Black, Hills, O'Connor, Spiro (secretary), and Hogg (treasurer). A further meeting will be held later on in the week. Mrs. Leask, Bdina House, Napier, lias an enterprising little niece, who has been working, and getting others to work, for money to give comforts to our soldiers. Last weekjthe eventful day, "The Church Army Hut'day," arrived. The Mayoress, Mrs. Hall, opened the sale of work, etc., and tho sum of .£SO was made as the result of this little maid's loving sympathy with our men in the- trenches. The money is sent to Headquarters, London, for the upkeep of the Napier Hut, which will relieve the strain on | our home resources for ten weeks. The Wellington' War Relief Association has-given the city the honour of naming two of the 100 beds in the Church Army Hospital for Soldiers at Pankerton Hut. This donation of ,£IOO endows two beds for twelve months. Now Zealand boys may be looking with grateful eyes at the name of the capital city on these two beds.
