TRIAL MAY BE CONSIDERABLY DELAYED

DETECTIVE INTERVIEWED

By Telegraph—Press Association. Grcymouth, November 18. Detective-Sorgeant Connolly arrived in Greymouth on Saturday, evening to work up the evidence for the Crown in the charges (four in number) laid against tho prisonoi Eggers, alias Macmahon. In a chat with an "Arjrns" representative, Deteotivc-Scrgeant Connollj- sail) the prisoner was a dangerous man for tho police to handle, as shown l>y his actions after arrest nt the police office. Ho was particularly alert and quick in his movements, but his toiwne was absolutely still. When Detective Connollj Interviewed him after finding the money nt his lodgings, and told him of it, and that tho notes were identifiable in connecting him with the murder and robbery, ho' said not a word. | Tho prisoner said Dotectlve Connolly was most expensive in his habits of dress. His hats were Stetson, which cost perhaps a couplo of guineas. Two photographs of the orisoner, taken in Brisbane (one in 1908), where inquiries have been set afoot by the police, witli a view to clearing up his history, were Bhown the interviewer. The mail had always plenty of money to spend, though he never seemed to do any work, said In reply to tho question "Do yon think tt possible that ho hnd anything to do with the Kaianoi murder?" the detective said, "Oil, I. don't think so. The murdered man had a ,£lO note left on him, and Kggers would not have left that behind." The prisoner wil,l probably not be brought to trial until Mr. Hall can give evidence. That will not be for some time, for his condition is still serious. Though there are hopeful signs of improvement, the doctors have .an anxious timo with him.
