The Ashhurst Olub, which holds its annual meeting on Wednesday next, is well suited by the ordinary train service, as three trains past thero from Palmerston North. In addition the course is only a few miles by road from Palmerston North, Feilding, and Woodville, bo everything points to, a very successful gathering. After the great success 4f its one-day Spring Meoting tho committee or tho Auckland Bating Olub is probably very pleased that it yielded to pressure from tho Owners' and Trainers' Association and hold the meeting. On tho other hand, the Hawke's Bay and Napier Olub probably aro regretting that they did not hold one-day spring meetings, no far all the clubs that havo racc<l in tho spring have done ostra well in tho matter 01 Acids and totnlisator receipts.^ Elocution was affected with lcidncy troubles laßt week, and the Dcinosthoncs filly was unable to show her best form. M'TjUchlan Ins third winning ride 111 the Melbourne Cup, a feat that has not open equalled by any other jockcy. It is a remarkable coincidence that both, cups were won by riders siiitaing from damaged hands. 1. A promising half-sister to Chortle and Chuckle, sired by tho Bullish -etullion.
Heather Mixture, has had the name of Fife and Drum claimed lor her. When Nanna won the Sprint; Plato for Mr. W. 11.
