A high military authority, referring to the situation in Mesopotamia, says:-'As it is known thnt von Falltenliayn has established his headquarters at Aleppo, and is advertising his great preparations for the recapture of Bagdad, the keynote of our operations is the defeat of this enterprise. Sir Stanley Maudo occupies a position that enables him to hit all round. Ho advanced up the Tigris and destroyed all the' enemy's stores. Tho Turks had two divisions there, but.have now fallen back fifty miles, and General Maudo is coming back to his original positions, there being no advantage In keeping his advanced positions."—Aus.N.Z.
