KERENSKY IN PETROGRAD

KORNILOFF TRIUMPHS IN MOSCOW ITALY'S HOPE OF RECOVERY HAVE LINE MUST BE HELP , ANOTHER BIG SWEEP IN PALESTINE The Russian situation, according to to-day's dispatches, is much less obscure. Kerensky is apparently master of tho situation m Pe rograd; Korniloff, after a severe fight, has occupied tho Krem m at Moscow while Kaledin is Dictator of Southern Russia. In Italy the portion is still precarious. Desperate fighting has occurred in the Trentino and along the Piave front, and the enemy has Buffered losses. A high military authority-whose opinions, by the way, are an interesting innovation and a valuable comment on the general situation m all the theatres-gives his view of the Italian military crisis. The Italians ho eavs, must hold the Piave lino themselves for some days, until o , Franco-British troops have.had time to concentrate and get into position on the battle-front. The danger is that the enemy may break through in tho Trentino. and so cut off the Italians. The same authority also supplies interesting comment on tho- situation in tho West, m Palestine, and in Mesopotamia. In the West, tho enemy has thnco changed his tactics, and has thrico f ailed. In Palestine the relentless driving tactics of General Allenby have prevented the Turks from entrenching algng the Wadi Sukercir, and tho British have now pushed forward,to with eieht miles of Jaffa, capturing many prisoners and large quantities of stores. In Mesopotamia, General Maude, having forcect' the Turks to retreat from 3 0 to 50 miles to tho north, has quickly returned to his original front. Mr. Lloyd George has explained tho scope and funotions of the new Allied War Council.
