. 4 , FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The fortnightly meeting of City Council was held last evening. Tlieio wore present:—The Mnvor (Mr. J. P. Luke), Councillors J, E. Fitzgerald, W. Hildreth, J?. A. Wright, J. Castle, C. B. Norwood, J. CSlioriaiul, W. J. Thompson, M. F. Luckie, L. M'Kenwe, A. Veitch, A: E, Atkinson, G. Frost, J. Godber, \V\ H. Bennett, and W. H. V. Barber. Finance and Property. , The following recommendations of the Finance and Property Committee were agreed to:— "That the officers be instructed to ad just tho necessary alignment at Karon Koad, as previously outlined, and also that the council fix November 29, in the council chamber, Town Hall, as tho date and place for hearing objections to the faking of the necessary land to imnrovo the alignment of such road. "That provided a iproperly-offner at Orchard Street, Wadestown, will contribute .£7 10s. towards the cost of erecting a retaining-wall to support the roadway along the front of his property, the conijpil will pay the balance of tho estimated cost, viz., £12 10s." Power Stations and Tramways, Tht following recommendations of tho Power Stations and Tramways Committee wero agreed to-.— "That authority be granted tor a trial of. a patent boiler circulator on two of tho boilers in (he tramway power station,.on the understanding that it it is eventually decided to instal the appliances in all the boilers, a royalty bo paid. , "The Wadestown Municipal Electors Associates have requested that soats be provided alongside tho kerb opposite the present stopping-place. The committee cannot recommend this proposal to tho approval of the council. "That tho request of the Onslow Borough Council that arrangements be made to switch off the street lights in tho borough at midnight, and thus reduce the charge from .£3 10s. to M per light,, per annum, be acceded to. (Note: Similar arrangements have been made with the Karori and Miramar Borough Councils)."

By-Laws Committee. The By-Laws Committeo's recommendation* ishich were approved, were as "That legal proceedings be taken against an owner of property for using as a dwelling, a- structure which does not comply with the requirements ot Uis building and sanitary by-laws. _ . "That an application .for permission to ereot a bulk store, out to tho street lino in Waripori Street, although the street has been exempted from the' provisions of the Public Works Act IMS, with a condition that no new building shall be erected within thirty-throe feet of tne centre line of such street, be refused.

Pubjic Health. The recommendations of the Public Health Committee approved were as fol"fhat ''a milk vendor convicted for selling milk containing 13 per oent. of added wator be warned that if there is any further conviction recorded against him his licence will be cancelled. "That Messrs. Bell, Gully, 8011, and Myers be informed in reply to their inquiry as to what course the council proposos to adopt with regard to the testing of certain milk produced at Miramar and distributed in the southern portions of the city, that tho cpunoil havo no power to exempt any milk produced outside the city from passing through the milk station; and that no exemptions apart from those already provided for in the Wellington City Milk Supply Act, 1910, "and its amendments, can be allowed."
