"THE SPIRITUAL FACTOR"
Sir.-Your leading article in to-day'e issue, headed "The Spiritual Faotor," is appreciated by many of your subscribers beside myself ae timely and admirable. But you nave not quite struck tho right key. Our King, ae head of our Church and head of the State, calls the whole Empire on the first Sunday of,the NewYear to prayor, it is true, but you do not einphasfte that it ia prayer to Almighty God, the Centre and Ruler of all men and of the universe, who has been neglcoted, disregarded, and offended by our people. You seem to eay "the winning of the war depends largely upon the religious and moral qualities of our men and women." That is not quite the "spiritual factor." That should rftther mean one great Imperial 6ob of the Empire's soul for merer and forgiveness, and of contrition and sorrow for our national and Individual sins. It means one great volume of supplication for spiritual help and guidance by our dod towards victory, peace, and reformation; and 4hese blessings asked by a great Christian people through and in the name of Jesus Christ our Saviour, the revelation and Son of God the Father, to ' Whom we pray. I think we might look on that appeal as a "spiritual factor. But will our people, priests, ministers, and Press concentrate and organise for fliisP Tbere is always plenty of enthusiasm and support for a -carnival or surprise packet day. Will you, at least, lead tne Press f-I am, etc., November 13, 1917.
