ROSE SOCIETY'S SHOW

A PRIVATE EXHIBITION. The Wellington Dose Society, at its annual meeting, decided to abandon its regular show, usually held in the Town Hall, but in order that the interest of members might bo stimulated and maintained, it was decided to hold a private exhibition of blooms grown by members of the eociety. The show was held yesterday in Godber's Kooms, in Cuba Street, and a very fine exhibition it proved. There were several hundred blooms, which were all nicely displayed, and the Zoo Eosery maintained by the members of the society, contributed a very fine lot of roses. The blooms generally were quite up to last year's standard, and the champion bloom (Mrs. George Sawyer), shown I by the cntbusiastic Otaki Tosanan, Mr. F. Ponn, well deserved the championship. It was perfect in form nnd colour, and was well grown. Mr. Penn carried off most of the prizes. Besides the roses thore was a table of sweet peas shown by Mrs. Knox Gilmer, and a superb collection of nquilegia, shown by Mrs. Porteous. Miss R. M. Joseph sent in some beautiful palms in pots, and nmnryllis, which were much admired. Thero were no charges made as entrance fees for exhibits or to visitors to the show. The attendance in the afternoon was comparatively small, but in the evening tho place was crowded. \ The winners were as follow:—Collection of Eoses: F. Pnnn, 1; Mrs. F. If. Porteous, 2; Colonel J.
