A FIREMAN DROWNED
'■ CONSTABLE'S PLUCKY ACT. A fireman on an overseas steamer was sden to walk off the Glasgow Wharf laet naght, and despite the quick action taken by Constable Cleverley, of the Wharf Police, the man died a« a result of his immersion. Hie Wme was Cornelius Doyle, a single, man, about 35 years ol age, and a native of Ireland. At about 8.30 p.m. Constable Cleverley, who was on duty near the wharf, sine the man fall in>o the harbour. Hβ tllrcw nim a line, but as Boylo made r.o effort to grasp it the constable jumped in a,nd held him up until several wliarf labourers, who were attracted by tho commotion, threw the line to the iescner. Boyle was hauled to the wliarf, and artificial respiration of an hour's duration failing to revive him, Dr. Henry was called, and he could only pronounce life to be extinct, death being due probably to shock. A member of the crew of the veeael to which the deceased belonged stated that previously within the last few months Bovde had been Raved from drowning.
Tho body was removed to the morgue, where an inqiwst will be held.
