GREAT EFFORT BY FRANCE AND BRITAIN
THE NEW WAR COUNCIL EXPLAINED KERENBKY AND THE BOLSHEVIKI COLLAPSE OP EXTREMIST REGIME The news from the Italian front to-day shows that our Ally is vigorously counter-attacking in the Treniino. On tho new defenco line on ■ the Piave the Italians, are concentrating their forces with methodical rapidity, but tho essence of the situation is the speed with which France and Britain can transport tho much-needed men, guns, and munitions. A great effort is being made, according to statements-made by Mr. Lloyd Georgo (the British Prime Minister) and M. Painleve (the French Premier). According to Mr. Lloyd George, the Allies have suffered in the past from the individualism which has characterised their campaigns. This it is the function of the new War Council to alter: to unify the Allie3' strategy and general direction of the war—one front, ono army, one nation, as M. Painleve puts it. Meanwhile, in Britain, Australia, and Canada the call for more men is being insistently emphasised. In Eussia tho situation is very much tho same as it was yesterday, save that the approaching fall of the Bolshevik regime is more clearly indicated. General Allenby's drive in Palestino continues to be vigorously pressed, and tho enemy, at the latest advices, is attempting to organise a new defence line.
