MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The Lower Hutt Borough Council met last evening." The Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) presided, and there were present also: Councillors Iloljbs, "Ward, Kerr, Cotton, Clendon, Brasscl, Walton, Meldrum, and M'Dougall. In the couvso of his report, tho borough engineer said: "Owing to tho long spell of wet weather, and tho large amount of Heavy cartage that has been done ovi» Price's Road (luring tho last few months, this road got into almost an impassablo condition. Repairs in the shapo of metalling and removal of vegetable growth have been effected and tho road is now in, very fair order. Ropairs are also being mado on Wainni Ilili lioad, parts of. winch are badly worn info ruts which might causo serious damage inl tho caso of a very heavy downpour." , Tho gas report stated: "During th» month of Octobcr tho amoiint of gns purchased froin Petono was .1,2-18,000 cubic feet. The amount purchased during tho corresponding "month of last year was 1,127,000 cubic feet, showing an increased consumption of 121,000 cubio foist. The gas purchased from Peton# during the past eight months amounts io 10,192,000. cubic feet, being an increase of 607,000 cubic feet over the corresponding eight montTis of last year. Tho amount of gas sold and accounted for during the month of September i.B as follows Domestic 1)35,100 cubic feci, power 02,900 cubic feet, street lighting 75,500 cubic feet; total accounted for, 1,133,500 cubic feet; unaccounted for, 87300 cubic feet, or 5.C2 per cent. The amount of gas purchased and accounted for during the seven months of the present financial year is is follows:— Purchased, 8,914,000 cubic feet; accounted for, 5,317,600 cubic feet; unaccounted for, 620,400 cubic l'eet, or 7 per cent. Seven new connections wero laid during tho month." The pumping station report reads:— "During tho live weeks ending "Monday, November 5, the pump ran 49 actual hours each week, and the total number of gallons pumped. 9,776,000 gallons, coko used 12 tons scwt., Petone gas used 20,700, cubic feet, carting .£6 Os. 9d. Approximately, wo Save 30 tons of coko in stock, also three spare bands of cylinder oil, one at tho pumping station and two In bond.
