KILBIRNIE IMPROVEMENTS

FIRE STATION AND PARK. The excavation work for the new branch tiro brigade station on the Town Belt at the head of Constable Street haa practically been completed, mid it is anticipated that the erection of the building will he proceeded with shortly. Use iias been made of the spoil from the excavation to fill in. that shallow piece of water at tho head of Evans Bay immediately to the south of Kilbirnio Park, and which will form an extension of that very fine reserve. With a little more fining down at that corner, the City Council will have- proceeded as far as they can with the reclamation of the head waters of Evans Bay. The right to do any further reclamation in that locality rests with tho Harbour Board, which already has the necessary statutory power enabling it to do so, when the board sliall deem it expedient. Ihe opportunity to reclaim a very large area of seashore land in that quarter at a minimum cost exists, as the water is very shallow for some distance out—too shallow to ever conceive it possible to be of any service to the shipping of the port.
