MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS
I / — Sir,—ln yoiw issue of to-day you state that in regard to the above examinations recruits must bring medical certificates 'with them if they wish to be heard regarding any information which their own doctors may have given them as to their physical condition. Verbal statements, you say, are not pufflcient. In my own oase, I was operated on by Dr. M'Gavin, now at the front, and some years earlier (at Home) had also to go through a rather serious operation. I shall have nothing but my own testimony to give when brought before the Medical Board. Does this mean, sir, that I shall not be listened to, and no thorough examination mado? Or must I go to the expense, of being privately examined, in order to'get the medical certificate above referred to?—I am, etc., INQUIRER. [The official instruction is as follows:— "Recruits must bring with them any medical certificates they desire to present to a. Medical Board. Failure _ to produce these certificates before examination will be regarded as a ground for refusing re-examination. The certificates will be handed to the district attesting officer when the recruit parades for medical examination." A recruit may make a verbal statement to the Medical Board, which will make an examination in all cases. T> medical officers after examination of the recruit, must act _ upon their own judgment of the case, m the absence of medical certificates.]
