Wedding at St. John's. •
i A wedding of local interest was yesterday celebrated in St. John's Church, when the Hev. Dr. Gibb united in matrimony Miss Jessie Buchan, the youngest daughter of Mis. A. Buchan, of Lipman Street, to Mr. C. R. Ingram, also of Wellington. The Vide wore a dainty white crepe do chcue frock, with pearl belt,'and the customary veil and orange blossoms. The bridesmaids (Miss Dorie Bartle, of Hastings, and Miss Elsie Peat) wore pretty crepe do cheno frocks of pink and blue respectively, trimmed with rosebuds and velvet strappings, and champagne picture hats. Tho bride and bridesmaids also carried beautiful shower bouquets of roses, sweet pens, and maidenhair fern. Mr. 0. (y. Mazengarb attended the bridegroom, and Sergouit E. W. Fitzgerald acted as groomsman. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a gold wristlet watch, and to tho bridesmaids gold chains and pendants. The bride's present to the bridegroom was a set of leather travelling suit cases. After the, ceremony n reception was held at Godber'a rooms, in Conrtemiy Place, where about 80 guests tssembled. Mrs. Buchan aleo entertained a number j of relatives and friends in the evening. The bride and bridegroom subsequently left for a honeymoon in the north, the bride's travelling costume being of electric blue, and lint to match. Sailors' Friend Society. Mrs. Walker was hostess at Tuesday night's concert at the Sailors-' Friend Society. Mr. Moore, missioner, who was in the chair, spoke on "How to place your money," in relation to (he temperance question. Again the _ competition produced that home-like spirit for which these concerts are noted. Tho performers wero: Mrs. Walker and the Missos Richardson, ■R. M'Gee, Coad, and M. King, and Messrs, Nelson and Coad. Mrs. Walker responded to a very wiirm vote of thanks. During a recent air raid on London Miss Smnllpage, "sister of Mrs. Halse, the lady superintendent of one of the T.M.C.a. huts in North - London, was killed by shrapnel. Miss Smallpage was at the time watching the raid from thn garden of Colonel Halsc's house. In mentioning (he loss of Miss Smallpago to Hie Munitions Auxiliary Committee, Mrs. Winston Churchill, the lady president of the district, paid a high tribute to her, saying that she was one of "her moat value! and most able lady workers. There was a good attendance of interested onlookers at the weekly demonstration of cooking by gas, given yesterday afternoon in the Wellington 'Gas Company's lecture hall in Courtenoy Place. Miss Carter demonstrated how to lunko flakey pastry, mock chicken tart, plum fruit cake, rock cakes, and meringues. The Camp Commandant at Trenthnm acknowledges with thanks receipt of (lie following gifts:-Vvom Women's Patriolio Committee, New Plymouth, 1 cose fi)i' camp hospital, 1 case for Y.11.C.A. A pleasant little function took place at the Nurses' Home, Public Hospital, last week, when five senior nurses who have resigned from tho staff were presented with small tokens of esteem from their colleagues of the past four years Nurses Punter, Godfrey, Williams, and J.nw each received e. suede bound volume oi poems, accompanied by n host of good wishes. Nurse Lancaster, whose capable services will be specially missed, and who was also extremely popular with tho staff in general, was presented with a solid silver clock and handsome travellinc rug amidst very hearty acclamation.
