MAGISTRATE'S COURT

POLICE AND; CIVIL BUSINESS. Mr. S. E. Jl'Carthy, S.M.. presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, nnd heard tho police cases.

A youth named Itiohard Thomas Davis plcaued guilty to breaking and entering t.ho premises o£ the Nirchana Go-operative Stores and stealing therofrom four packets of cigarettes, two packages o£ matches, and ten packages of tobacco,, of tho total value of 155., tho property of tho- association. Ho was committed to tho Supremo Court for sentence.

A remand 1o Wednesday, Kr.venibuT 14, was granted in the. case against Euljih Williams, a Harbour Board employee, who was charged with stealing a bottle of whisky, a bottlo of schnappß, a bottlo of gin. tlirco bottles and threo lla-sks of whisky, and four tins of qigarettes, of tho value of £2 125., the property of the Harbour Board. A sentence of twelvo months' mcnt was imposed on Polly Brown, who was convicted of loitering in Lower Taranalti Street for immoral purposes. For insobriety Alice do Beere was fined 20s„ in default 48 hours' imprisonment, nnd was also ordered to pay 17s. 6d. medical expenses, in default 21 days' imprisonment. Ono flr6t offender was fined 205., with, tho option of 48 hours' imprisonment, and another was fined 10s., in default 24 hours' imprisonment. A soldier who was convicted of insobriety was ordered to be handed over to the military authorities. CIVIL OASES. Judgment wa3 given by Jlr. W. G. JUDGMENT SUMMONS. Judgment summons cases were dealt with as follow:—Ij. E. Montgomery was ordered to pay H. Gotliob £3 lis. by "ovembor 20, or serve threo days' imprisonment; Duncan MacPlierson was crdercd to pay Edward James Ball £2 ss. by November 20, or serve 48 hours in gaol; A. (iannaway was ordered to pay llio N.Z. Fish Supply Co., Ltd. £1 10s. forthwith, and the baln.nco of £6 4s. lid. by instalments of 10s. per week. CLAIM FOR CHATTELS. Charlotto "Eliinics, of Wanganui, for whom Mr. E. M. gladden appeared, proceeded against Thomas Stuart M'Gilire, of tho Columbia Private Hotel, represented by Mr. G. G. G. Watson, lo recover possession of certain chattels, or in tho alternative £50, tho estimated value of tho chattels. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £26 and coels. MOTOR-CAR AND EXPRESS. Judgment was reserved In the case in which Williah Standen, carrier, for whom Mr. V. W. Jackson appeared, proceeded against E. Reynolds, cycle importer, represented by Mr. H. E. Evans, to recover £30, for injuries to a. horse a.s the result of ft collision between defendant's motorcar and plaintiff's express.
