HUGE HAUL BY THE FRENCH

ENEMY DRIVEN FROM THE • CHEMIN-DES-DAMES SEA FIGHT OFF SWEDEN SEVERAL GERMAN SHIPS SUNK BY THE BRITISH As a sequel to the brilliant success iron by the French in the vioinity of Fort Malmaison, and further north, the Germans have abandoned their remaining positions on tho northern elopes of the Aisne heights. Another instalment of tho statement lately made by the First Lord of tho Admiralty supplies still more striking evidence of the declining prospects of tho enemy submarine campaign, and throws interesting light upon other aspects of the naval situation. The Admiralty reports tho destruction of as enemy auxiliary cruiser and ten armed patrols, caught in the Kattegat, and also of an electrically-controlled boat which attacked British patrols on the Belgian coast. The Turks have again been successfully attacked in Southern Palestine, this time in the region of Gaza. Further accounts ore given of tho capture of Beersheba, an' operation in which a very important part was played by the mounted troops. Detailed accounts of the Italian retreat states that it was carried out in remarkably good order. A great battle is expected on the plains. Gloomy accounts are given of the situation in Russia.
