Selig, manager of tho Christchurch Press Company, arrived in Wellington by tho Maori yesterday. A Press Association eablo_ message from London states that Captain Paul Barkor, of tho Royal Artillery, and late of Wailii, has been killed in action. Tho Now Zealand Government war correspondent states that tho Commander-in-Chief has awarded tho Militoy Cross to Second Lieutennnt F. W. Wilson, of a Canterbury Regiment. A Press Association message from Dunedin slates that Mr. A. G. Batohers, M.A., headmaster of tho High Sohool at Ararat, Viotoria, has been appointed principal of tho John M'Glashan Presbyterian College, Dunedin. Mr. P. Robieson, who has been in charge of tho Tourist Department's office at Invercargill for some time, has been transferred to the Christchurch office, and will take up his duties there to-morr6w. Sir. A. B. Saunders, who has been re-, liering in Christchurch since Mr. 6. .T. Collet left for camp, returns to Wellington. Tho Hon. D. Buddo receded' advice on Thursday that his second son, Private Roy Buddo, of tho Fifth had been wounded for tho third time. Private Buddo was wounded at Gallipoli and again in an engagement soon after the Sommo battle. Mr. E. D. Hoben, formerly of Christ, churoh, and recently on the staff of the Melbourne "Herald, was so soriously ill at Melbourne when tho last mail, left Australia that his friends entertained grave apprehensions about his condition, Mr. F. T. Mooro (chairman of tho Johnsonville Town Board) has been nominated bv Mr. John Haggcrty (chairman of the Makara County Council) and Mr. J. M. Dalo (Mayor of Onslow) to represent the combined districts of Makara, Onslow, and Johnsonville on the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.
Confirmation of the death of Dr. Hugh Barr, R.A.M.C., through the bombing of the 29th General Hospital at Salonika, has just been recoived at Alexandra, Otago, where he formerly practised.
Rifleman Lance D. Waters, 2nd Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, wounded on October 12, left 'Wellington with the Seventh Reinforcomjnts on October 10, 1915. He is tho 6econd sou of Mr. John Waters, Ward, Marlborough, and grandson of Mr. and Mre. J. Waters, Pipitea Street, Wellington. His elder brother, Cyril, died of wounds received at Gallipoli in a Cairo hospital on August 31, 1915. '
Private Dugald MTherson Wighton (died of wounds) was the joungest son of Mr. and Mrs. David Wighton, of Palmerston North, but at one time a. resident of Wellington. He left New Zealand with the Eleventh Reinforcements for France, and was there until lie met his death.
Tho death occurred at Tauherenikau on Saturday last of Mr. 'Alfred Macey Willcinson, one of the oldest settlers in the district. Mr. Wilkinson was born at Salisbury, England, in 1837, and camo to New Zealand in 1873, and soon afterwards settled in tho Wairarapa. He acquired considerable property interests in the district, including the Tauherenikau Hotel, which ho conducted for a number of years. Until failing health overtook him he displayed an active interest in the local affairs of the district. The funeral will leave his late residence to-morrow at 1.30 p.m.
Private advises from Cliristclmrcli record the death on Saturday of Mr. Herbert Boon, late of tho "Evening Post" literary staff. The deceased was a son of Mr. .1. W. Boon, of Christchurch, and commenced his newspaper career with the Christcluircli "Press." He afterwards joined the Auckland. "Star," and four .years ago eamo to Wellington to join our evening contemporary. His death was unexpected. Ho had been attached to Press Gallery staff for his paper, and at tho ond of the session left last Thursday on a holiday for Christchurch. Mr. Boon was well liked in press circles. Some time ago he volunteered for service, but was rejected on account of an affection of the! heart.
Tho late Miss Ulizabeth Alexander left soma handsome bequeste to public institutions in Wanganui (states a Press Association telegram from that centre). •Pho chief items are.£l2,ooo for the Museum and Library, .£4OOO for tlie Wanganui Orphanage, J52500 for tho Hospital, <£2000 for tho Education Board for the purpose of establishing technical college scholarships, JJISOO for tho Presbyterian noine Mission, .CIOOO for the founding of scholarships at the Girls' College. Other bequests inclttdo ,£6OO to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, .£SOO to tho Public Library, ,£SOO to ttio Old Men's Home, and .£")00 to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. The total ot these bequests is .£24,900.
