ATTEMPT TO GERMANISE POLAND
A DANGER TO THE ALLIES (Eec. November 1,. 0.45 a.m.) Stockholm, October 30._ A critical situation has developed ia Poland. There is a growing inclination ; to come to terms with the occupying Powers. Although the Polish sentiment ,is largely anti-German, the- absence of' . direct communication with the outer world' causes publio opinion to regard the. military situation, with German, eyes, and' to make the best jwssible terms. Negotiations between the Central National Polish Party and Germany have reachedi, a definite point of agreement, involving: ; the Polish Government's acceptance o? the- obligation to raise.troops in defence of tffo Eastern frontier from Vilna to; ; Volhvnia, thus releasing many German' , divisions for tho summer of 1915. If) this Rgreement should be ratified Poland , will become an enemy State, and Germany's commercial vassal after the war. It is believed that this danger can only ; be averted by a prompt declaration by ; the Allies, definitely inoludinsr in their war aims the establishment of a united! Poliind, with access to the sea— "Thef „ Times."
