COMFORTS FOR TROOPS
J.M.C.A. IN FBANCE. . Free distribution of comforts by secretaries of the Y.M.C.A. right in'the firing line in France was highly spoken ot recently in Routine Orders by the general eoinnistndiiig an Australian division ia France. In one week one Y.M.C.A. centre distributed free to tho men of three brigades 28,275 packets biscuits. 3500 cakes, 14,600 packets cigarettes, oflO cigars, 1750 bare chocolate, 59,700 rauge tea and lemonade, in. addition to large quantities of reading and writing material. Tho above were handed to the men at 1 times while they were actually in tho trenches, and at other when they were passing through on relief or making their way back to the rest camp. For this special, work the appreciation of the general commanding the division was expressed in Routine Orders for ,Tuno 9 and 16. On the occasion of the troops moving from one enntre to another facilities are given at the same time for the' association «nd its equipment to move. Under this iirrangemen* the Y.M.C.A. is generally awaiting tho troops at the new quarters.
