$ MR, WEBB NOT THE OXLY MINING REPRESENTATIVE. ■ A. statement mndo by Jlr. , Frank Reed, Chief Inspector of Jlines, at the liear•ing of the appeal for the exemption from military service of Jlr. P. C. Webb, M.P., to the effect that Mr. Webb had done more than other members of Parliament in the interests of mining, was mentioned in the House of liepresetilatives yesterday.

Jlr.'T. W. Rhodes, who represents the 'quartz-mining district of Thames, asked the Minister of Mines io inquire whether Mr. Reed was correctly reported, and, if so, to ask him to justify his statement. It was a direct reflection on members generally, and especially on members of the Mines Committee. . /

The Hon. W. D. &'. Mac Donald said that there were some eight men in Parliament representing mining districts, and he thought every Minister realised us well as he did that they were all specially keen on mining mailers.- Mr. Wolib was as keen as any of them, but he would not specialise it individualise any member, of Parliament. (Hear, hear.) He would find ou.t whether Mr. Eeetl had made a statement as reported. Mr. Nofiworthy: Will the Minister ask that this statement be withdrawn?
