SATURDAY "JOLLIES"

FOR THE SOLDIERS. A further meeting cf the committee which is acting with the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) in arranging Saturday evening entertainments for the delectation of the soldiers, oommencing on December 1, was held in tho Mayor's room yesterday afternoon. After an interesting discussion it wnß decided that the tot entertainment should be given on Saturday, December 1 (the first evening on which tho publichouses are to cloae at 6 o'clock:), and that the Wellington Orphans' Club be written to, with the request that they should repeat the second part of the delightful show given on the eluVs 'ladies' night." On Saturday, December 8, it is proposed to have «■ dance, interspersed with items to be provided by the Spinsters' Club. On December 15 the Savage Club will be asked to provide the programme, and on December 22 another dance will be held, with added Heme to be arranged by Mr. W. E. Caldow. The Harmonic Society ie to be asked to provide a epecial entertainment for the 6oldieis on Christmas Night.

It was deoided that the matter of Tefreshments be left to the Mayoress's and Citizens' Committee, with the recommendation that a nominal charge bo made for the same. The committeo is arranging that every man in uniform nhall be allowed to bnns one lady to these entertainments, but it he wishes to bring an extra lady he will have to procure a ticket from the Mayor or Mr. H. Seaton (secretary pro tern.), Willis Street. The Commandants of the Trenthani ami Feathorston Camps are to he written to advising them of the proposal to give these entertainments, and with.a request to post same in orders to troop.? coming to Wellington on weetend leave. Mr. Bernard V. Page kindly offered hie services as accompanist tor tno JJeMr. Ronton to arrange.
