The Court of Appeal yesterday resumed tho hearing of tho application by tho Nqw Zealand Law Society for a rule absol'uto to striko off tho rolls of barristers and solicitors William (Jascoyne Beard. The Chief Justice (Sir Bobort Stout) presidod, and with him on tho bench were Mr. Justico Denuistou, Mr. Justico Cooper, Mr. Justico Chapman, and ilr. Justice Hosking.

| T.IIO society alleged that Board had been guilty of professional misconduct in itis dealings with a Maori named liangi lCerehoma. The chargcs (already published) were very lengthy, and chieily concerned land transactions, in which Beard, in conjunction with one William Boyco Chennells, of Masterton, commission agent, was alleged to have acted, in fraud of Eangi's rights. Mr. H. P. von Haast appeared for tho Law Society, and Mr. A. Gray, E.G., and Mr. M. Myers for Beard. Mr. Gray's address to the Court occupied th'o greater part of the day. The defonco consisted in an absolute denial of all allegations of improper and unprofessional conduct. Tho hearing was not concluded when tho Court adjourned.
