' SCHOOLS' FINAL. . 'Having met, and played a drawn game in the schools' final, Porirua and Marist (Thorndon) met in the replay on the Hospital Ground, Porirua, on Saturday. The many supporters of both schools who attended the match wero fortunate in witnessing one of the best exhibitions of Association seen in Wellington this 1 season. Tho game onded in a win for the suburban school by one goal to nil— one of the most pleasing features being • the few times the referee found it necessary to penalise tho players for broaches of the rules. From the word "go" both teams showed they were out to uphold the honour of their respective schools, and Porirua were early on the attack, Lacey, the Marist goalkeeper, being called on to save several hard (shots, one of which he had to fall to, and being unable to clear the quick suburban forwards netted with little difficulty. Put on their mettle by this' reverse the greens made great efforts to penetrate their opponents' defence, but tho Porirua goalkeeper Doherty and their big fullback Pere, proved themselves equal to tho occasion, and again set their forwards in motion—Hassell, Whitehouse, and Leckic being prominent in many rushes. The combination of the rightwing men : was excellent, and the Marist representative fullbacks, Day and TanCred, were kept exceptionally busy, but both were in good form, and saved their team time and again. The. town for' ,wards wero slow to get going, and little was seen of them in the first spell, save for occasional dashes • into their opponents' area, one of which would have resulted in a score had the centre-for-ward beon in his place, as the Porirua goalkeeper was out of tho goal. Although making great efforts by means of fine combination to increase their lead beforo tho end of the spell, the Porirua lads wero unable to again find the net, and Hie whistle sounded for half-time without, any alteration being made in the score-sheet. Upon resuming, the Marist boys commenced the attack, and over-eagerness robbed them of a score on more than ono- occasion. Davis and Eastwood wero doing good defence work for Porirua, and were ably supported by tho fullbacks, who succeeded in breaking up many of the Greens' determined rushes. ' Cudby, - George, . and Kehoe were prominent for Marist in tho attacks at this stage, but the necessary i finish was lacking for scoring.' Lewis was also doing well on tho left, and had I bad' luck with one shot in the ball hitling Hie upright. Kehoe and Tancred wero (ho next in quick succession to lest Hie goalkeeper, who was in great form, but without success. The suburban forwards again took a hand in the play, and suddenly transferred to (ho other end of the field where Brown saved in good style on several occasions. Towards tho end of I ho game the Greens made great efforts to equalise, and a high dropping shot by Black looked like succeeding, but tho goalkeeper was there everv lime, and kept his goal clear until' the final whistle blow The following, shows the results of tho various championships played during the 1917 season:— .
