It was shown that after the accused was ordered into camp he went to tho far north of Auckland, where he worked on a farm. The farmer became suspicious, dismissed Carroll, and; informedths police. When arrested Caw roll gave a- false name. Mr. Onglev, who appeared for accused, contended that there was no evidence to prove that Carroll had actually received, official notification that he had been called up. He also protested against tha waste of public money involved in * 'ESEmart&t in.which'. fourteen Defanej Department officials,-greater or less, wer<* concerned.
