'.[ha report of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, to be presented' tit tiie annual meeting on Wednesday evening next, states that, following tho decisions adopted in 1915 and 1016, no NewZealand championship meeting was held last year, nor will bo held this year. "Secondary Primary Schools Champion, ships,—This matter and! the general subject of encouraging school tournament has been before the Management Committee during tho year. As a result of communications from affiliated associations tho council is recommended to favourably consider that affiliated iissociations should be urged to secure tho formation of public schools tennis associations; to sccuro the affiliation of such schools associations to their and then to apply to tho'New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association for any necessary financial assistanco or encouragement to snch schools associations. . the Management Committee is of the opinion that its powers to assist are restricted, and that until a properly constituted association capablo of recognition by a provincial association is formed the financial assistance that might be afforded by tho Now Zealand Lawn 'lenms Association would be of little practical or permanent value. "Wilding Memorial— J .ho fund now stands at S!i 17s. 6rl'. At the last annual meeting it was resolved that tho amount be held in trust until after the war. "Tho Management Committee recommends that for tho remainder of tho war period no demands for .subscriptions bo made on affiliated associations, but that unpaid subscriptions duo by affiliated associations be recovered unless any association on good cause being shown is granted relief. ~ ■'During the vear a further distribution of funds was made by tho Australasian Lawn Tennis Association, and tho New 7,caland Association received tho sum of JJIOO as its share. Of. this sum m has been placed m the Savings Bank on deposit, and tho remainder kept in current account. "The secretary, Mr. ■Arthur J. "During the year the management expenses have been kept down to a minimum, and tho secretary has assisted by donnti'n" the stationery used and by a cash donation of ,825." ' Inferring to the roll of honour, tho renort "ays: "In addition to the special request already sent to secretaries of associations, a furtuer appeal IS inndo for additional information to be added to the roll of honour inaugurated prior in tho last annual meeting Every list of casualties that is published has the name of some tennis enthusiast and one cannot but reflect on tho awful lo=s which tho great war now raging b»» caused in human lire, when so many ol one's own friends and acquaintances, arc numbered amongst those who have given their all for country, and tha wljich stands for 'England. Jvo woid of nrai«e is n«cessary for those dear ones who have suffered loss of life or injury I in. the country's, cause. Theirs is the great sacrifice and the knowledge of duty 3one. But to the bereaved relativeswhat can be said? . Admiration and gratitude do not sufficiently express the feelings wo have for those who bear their losses so nobly, who give their voting men so readily as tho call is repeated time after time. Let us remember the great dobt w« owe, and never shirk from tho responsibility that debt places on one and all of us."
