SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE

INCREASED SEPARATION ALLOWANCES REQUESTED. By Telograph—Press Asßooiation. Masterton, October 2-i. At a meeting of Second Division lieague members last night the following motions were carried:— "That this meeting expresses keen disappointment at the inadequate provision made for dependants of soldiers by the Government, whose aotion will condemn the dependante of our ♦'ghting men to a period of hardship for which there is no necessity whatsoever, when the present prosperity of the Dominion is taken into consideration.

"That this meeting requests the Government to increase the separation allowance to soldiers' wives to 6s. per day, and to children to Is. 6d. per day, thus enabling them to live decently without tho necessity of making application to the Financial Assistanco Board or any othor board that may be set up. "That this meeting strongly resents the statement of Mr. Massey that the Second Division League is not playing tho game, and wishes to express displeasure at the JPrime Minister making such a remark, which in our epinion is nuito unwarranted and uncalled for. "Further, that we consider the action of the League's Executive in placing the league's claims before individual members of Parliament far more 'cgitimate than the holding of caucuses for the purpose of bringing into lino members of Parliament."

Napier, October 21. The Second Division League passed a resolution last night urging the Government to reconsider tho scale of allowances and pensions, protesting against Mr. Jfassey's statement that the league was not playing the game, and calling on the Premier either to substantiate or withdraw the assertion. Sir Joseph Ward's statement that the Second Division would have to remain in the Dominion unless it nbandoned its demands was also adversely criticised. Mr. Vigor Brown's suggested non-combatant tax was approved/ The branch reiterated its resolution that the Second division should go to tho last man and that tho Main Body must bo relieved at any cost.
