THE AMUSEMENT TAX
A. AND P. SOCIETIES ASK BELIEF. A deputation representing various ?gricultural and pastoral associations waited upon the Prime Minister nnd Sir Joseph ward yesterday morning to -urge the "remittance of tho amusement tax on agricultural shows. The deputation asked whether if all tho side-shows were done away with tho Government would remit tho tax on tho gato moricy.
The Ministers, in reply, stated that thoy could not remit the tax, Sir Joseph Ward pointing out that it was necossary that money should be provided.
The deputation subsequently held a conference with the Commissioner of Stamps to. arrange details in : connection with the collection of the tax.
The Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes introduced Iho deputation, which consisted of Messrs. J. Beans, R. W. Lochhead, and 0. B. Pemberton. representing the Canterbury, North Ofcago, Otago; Timaru, Rangiora, Ellesmere, Banks Peninsula, and Courteray A. and P. Associations, and Messrs Sutherland, Johnston, and T. Atkins representing tho Manawatu, Hawke's Bny, Northern, Feilding, and Carterton A. and P. Associations. The following members of Parliament accompanied tho deputation: Messrs: Sykes, Outline, Buick, Witty, Okey, and Mnnder.
The members of the deputation had a conference with the Minister and the Commissioner of Stamps lator, and a satisfactory agreement was made as to the amount of tha tax and the method of collecting it.
