A THOUGHTFUL ACT
AND A GRACEFUL ACKNOWLEDGMENT. Writing from "Somewhere at Sea," on August U, Lieutenant Arthur Oakey, of the Twenty-seventh Reinforcement write 3 to the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), enclosing an interesting letter (to which are attaohed eighteen pages containing the signatures of the men of the reinforcement) to be handed on to Mrs. Mary Ann Williams, of 87 The Terrace, who gave a sum. of money for the entertainment ana comfort of the men on shipboard. The letter reads as under: — . . "Dear Madam,-We, the undersigned members of the reinforcement sailing in this ship, would ask you to accept our deepest gratitude for your kind donation towards our company entertainment fund, handed to us through Lieutenant A. Oakey. The whole ship's company join in wishing you every possible future happiness and good health, and. sincerely trust that you will bo spared to manifest your splendid interest _ m the welfare of the boys who are leaving New Zealand from time to time *o light their Empire's battles."
