THE HOUSE

The House of Representatives met at 7.30 p.m. The War Legislation Amendment Bill and the Native Lands Amendment Bill uikl Native Land Claims Adjustment Bill were introduced by Vice-Regal Message, and rend a first time. The latterßill, commonly referred to as "the Native Washing-up Bill," was read a second time pro forum, and referred to the Native Affairs Committee.

LOCAL BILLS WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR. The Waimakariri Harbour District and Empowering Amendment Bill was committed, reported with amendments proposed in Committee by the author of the Bill (the Hon. D. fiuddo), and read a third time and passed. NAPIER HARBOUR WORKS. SIR JOHN FIND MY (Hawkc's Bay) moved the second reading of the Napier Harbour Board Empowering and Vesting Bill.

The Bill was put through all stages aud passed. FOXTON HARBOUR. Mr. W. 11. FIELD (Otaki) the sspond reading of the Foxton Harbour Board Amendment Bill. He said that the passage of the Bill would remove a long-standing grievance. When tho wharf was vested in the Harbour Board instead of the Railway Department, the board would procure a dredge, and the channel would bo kept reasonably clear instead of being blocked at periods of the year. Mr. E. NEWMAN (ltangitikei) said that the Bill would make it possible for the port to progress. For years Foxton

had suffered from the jealousy of Wellington. on the one side, and of Wanganui on tho other. It' tho port had been as well treated in the matter of endowments us Wanganui and other ports, it would now havo been' a very much bigger port than it i 6. He was glad that at last justice was to bo done to a district that had boen previously very unjustly tnated.

The Bill was put through all stages and passed.

OTHER BILLS. The Christchurch Milk Supply and Markets Amendment Bill (Mr. H. G. Ell), the Nelson Harbour Board Empowering Bill (Mr. T. A. H. Field), the Dunedin Waterworks Extension Bill (Mr. C. E. Statham), the . Hawke'a Bay Divers Amendment Bill (Sir John Findlay), the AVhakatane Harbour Board Amendment Bill (the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald), the Wanganui Harbour Board Vesting Bill (Mr. W. A. Veitch), Rnd the Whangarei Harbour Board Vesting Bill (Mr. F. Mender) were put through all 6tagos from, second reading onwards, and severally passed. The House rose at 0.5 a.m.
