END OF THE SESSION
PROBABLY NEST WEEK
WORK STILL TO BE DONE
STATEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER
A statement regarding the work to be done in the remainder of the session was made by tho Prime Minister in the House of Representatives last night. Mr. Forbes asked tho Prime Minister whether lie could give an indication to tlio House as to when tho session was likely to end. ]f the Prime Minister could givo this information to members they could push on with the wort, and get liome to their farms. Mr. 6aid he would be very glad if he could give a definite and satisfactory reply to the question. Cabinet had been sitting all that day considering legislation which Parliament would, be asked to deal with before the end of the session. There was not much to be done, but he -was sadly afraid that it' would not be possible to finish this week. .Referring to the Bills on the Orderpaper, he said that the Land La we Amendment Bill, a non-contentions, departmental measure, would be proceeded, with. The State Supply of Electrical Energy Bill, a simple measure, should, not require much consideration from the Honse. The Social Hygiene Bill had been opposed in the Honse *on Fridaynight, but ho hoped an understanding would be reached regarding this Bill before it came up again. He did not 1 , think that the Registration of Business Names Bill would bo prpceeded with this session. The Expeditionary Forces Amendment Bill -would be gone on with. Mr. Forbes; No slaughter of the innocents ?
Mr. ~assey: Just ss it happens, there are no innocents to slaughter. Replying to another question, Mr. Massoy said that it would not be possible to allow Mr. Hindmarsh's Bill to proceed. The purpose of the Bill—to regulate rents in Wellington—would be served by a clause in another Bill—the War Legislation "Amendment Bill—to bo introduced by the Government. There would also bo tho "Washing-up Bill, to contain this year sixty or seventy elauses, none of them contentious. After these Bills were out of the way very little would remain, but ho did not expect to finish until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
