MUTINIES IN AUSTRIAN NAVY
SANGUINARY FIGHT WITH GERMANS
CENTRAL POWERS CRACKING
Washington, October 19. It is officially reported that the mutinies in the Austrian Navy have been caused by bad food and ill-treatment of the men by officers. Clashes occurred between Austrian sailors and the crew 3 of tho German U-boat fleet at Pola, and sanguinary fighting resulted. Officers on both sides were killed.
The tension, which became most alarming, was due to the overbearing conduct of tho Germans.' Extraordinary measures have been taken, and the flotilla has been removed further south on the Adriatic coast.
Tho Austrian Admiralty desperately attempted to suppress the news, but it reached the United States via Berne. In conjunction with the news of the mutinies of submarine crewa at Ostend, the report has accentuated tho belief that the Central Powers are cracking rapid-ly.—Ans.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

A sanguinary encounter at Pola between Austrian crews nnd the German U-boat flotilla, owing to tho tyranny of the latter, was only subdued by the intervention of naval patrols. A. number of German eailors wera killed. The XT-boats were afterwards ordered to another base.
