SUGAR FOR SOLDIERS
THE BRITISH EMBARGO. Members of Parliament as well as other' people have been puzzled to know why the British Government will not allow sugar to be sent into Britain by in the House Mr. Talbot asked this nnestion of the Minister of Customs- Whether ho.will take steps to ascertain the reason of the regulations debarring the importation, of sugar into Great Britain and Prance nv the gift parcels sent to soldiers, and whether He will endeavour to have- tho embargo removed at an early date?- ~ - ... Tho Hon. , A. Myers (Minister of Customs) replied: The reason for the regulation debarring the importation of sugar into Great Britain and 1 ran.ee is not definitely known, but the-prohibition ■is supposed to be due in .someday to the scheme of rationing arranged by tl-e Food Controller. An .endeavour; has alrcadv been -made/by tho PostmasterGonoral through the High Commissioner to have the embargo removed, but the replv -is that it is regretted that no exception can be mado in favour of soldiers' parcels. .
