A number of soldiers from Lowry Bay Convalescent Home, Viatoria Military Hospital, and tho Returned Club, were the guests at an evening given by Mr. and Mrs. Hempton at their home in Thompson Street on Wednesday night. Between 10 and 50 wero present. A number of girl friends assisted Mrs. Hempton. As tho occasion was a "book ovemng,' each guest wore a token to represent a book. A good programme of music, etc., helped )o pass a very happy evening. Mrs. Hompton's evenings are always looked forward to by tho soldiers, and arc a great success. It was thought a suitable occasion to bid farewell to Miss Pcarce; who is leaving Wellington shortly to take up nursing duties at Wanganui. Tho winners of tho competition were Miss Pengelly and Private Wilson. At tho conclusion of tho evening three cheers were given for tho host and hostess. Mrs. Itollestoh kindly motored tho soldiers from Lowry Bay.
