Colonel Baillic, M.L.C., lias received news by. cablegram that his second son. Private T. D, Baillie, was killed in action in Flanders on October i. Private Baillic was educated at Nelson College, and later became a keen volunteer and rifle shot.' Last year he gave up farming at Otorohanga to join the Torces, and left New Zealand in January last with the 20th Reinforcements, his only son going with him in the same company. He is also survived by his wife and a daughter, Nurse Baillie, of the Wellington Hospital staff.

The Wellington Hospital Board decided yesterday to send a letter of sympathy to Dr. Adams (Hospital Superintendent) and Mrs. Adams on the death of their son.

Sergeant-Major Sehvyn Jacka, of the Artillery service, who has been killed in action, left with the Main Body, on October 16, 19M, and served throughout the war in'Gallipoli and France, without being wounded, but on one occasion when with his battery a shell burst among'the men, killing and wounding several. Tho concussion of the shell knocked Sergt.-Major Jacka down, badly bruising him and giving him a severe shock. Ho is the third 6on of Mr. T. S. Jacka, manager of the Norwich Union Fire Insurance Company, Auckland, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John Waters. Pipitea Street, Wellington. Decoased was born, in Auckland, • was 24 years cf age, and has two brothers with the. troops in France, Sergeant Clif and Corporal Hubert Jacka. This is tha second grand«m*Mr. and Mrs. Waters have "had killed at tho war. Cyrii Waters, son of Mr. John Waters, of Ward, Marlborough, was wounded at Gallipoli and died in a Cairo hospital.

Lieutenant Harold M. Petersen, who has been killed in action, was the eldest son of Lieutenant' H. C. Petersen, R.N.Z.A., Adjutant of D Battery. He , was born in Wellington, and received his primary education at the Terrace School, finishing at Wellington College. For some years he was on the staff of the Ocean" Accident Insurance Company, wliere he was held iu high esteem. His military training was all done in D Battery, from which he entered the N.Z., Expeditionary Force as n.c.0., qualifying for second lieutenant prior to leaving the Dominion. '

A Press Association message from Waimate states that Mr. George Pitcaithly was publicly farewelled on Wednesday evening, prior to transferring to the position of inspector for the Auckland district, after years as headmaster at Waimate. '

Private H. W. Mitchell, of the 12Ul New Zealand Reinforcements, Infantry, has been wounded. ' Before enlisting. Private Mitchell was on the staff of Lnery and Co., Ltd.; he is a son of Mr. J. Mitchell, of Meltings, Lower Hutt.

Cable advice has been received stating that Private Frank George, eldest son of tho late Mr. Frank George, hairdresser, of Wellington, has been killed in action. Private George left with the 13th Reinforcements (Royal Naval Reserve) about eighteen months ago. Recently word was received that he was gassed, and had been buried in a shell-hole, but he had evidently recovered sufficiently to take part'iu" the last big push. He was 37 years of age, and was most popular among his associates. Private S. Garrett, reported as having died of sickness, was the 6econd son o* Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Garratt, Johnsonville. The late Private Garrett was 2.1 years of age, and before volunteering-for the front was for four years in the employ of Messrs. Ross and Glendimng. He left with the lGth Reinforcements, and at the.time of his death was a momber of the sth Regimental Band,' stationed 'somewhere in France..

Mr. John Sheridan, of Gisborne, is at present a visitor to Wellington.

Mr. Robert Williamson, touring manager for J. C. Williamson, Ltd., is at present in town, making arrangements for the appearance in Wellington of the Royal Comic Opera Company next .Wednesday evening. ■
