OUR DAY APPEAL
BIG EFFORT FOE THE BED CKOSS TO-DAT, Many novel means of collecting for Red Cross Funds have been devised for to-day's appeal, and among them is the mute appeal which will-be made by a. well-traniwl dog and a mule, both of which will carry panniers in the shape of deep baskets covered with sheeting and marked with the Bed Cros3, in which people will be invited to throw their coins, small or otherwise. Such an appeal, particularly that made by tho dog, it will be difficult to ignore. Other monoy-niakers tor tho cause will be tho stalls, which will be posted at various points of vantage throughout the- city, aud from which articles of all deecrlptions, useful, ornamental, and otherwise, may be purchased. The ladies in charge of these have been, working for many weeks past in order to have good supplies of tempting articles, and it is hoped that they will meet with tho reward which the cause and their efforts well deserve. According to tho news of recent fighting there is likely to be a great need of Bed Cross help. A concert party, including Paul Staniiope's Revuo Company, the original Quartet. Mr. Val. Nowma\ and Mr. Will llaynor, the popular tenor, will also assist the cause. The English Pierrots and "Charley's Aunt" Club will punido the streets on a decorated lorry, and the commercial travellers intend to iK'ip willi tlio movement. . In the evening there will be a Big torchlight procession, headed by ™e 'I'l'onttmitt Military Band. Details as to tho sections taking part in tho procession are advertised. The procession will leave the Government Printinj Oflico at t 7.45 p.m. j
