Ho will proceed to Australia. at an carlv date. Some weeks nso the Victorian Premier (Sir Alexander Peacock) was advised by cable message that Mr. F. M. Roniphrcy. the new general manager of the State shipbuilding yards, would leave England by the end of tirptc'mber, or the beginning of Octobcr. Mr. Bomphrcy's first duty will bo to confer ■with union representatives, and endeavour to comc to an arrangement which will prevent the possibility of interruption of •work through labour troubles.
The Canterbury Company's Calm is due at Wellington to-morrow morning from Lyttelton, and is to sail in the afternoon for Wanganui. The Breeze is duo here on Friday from Lyttelton. and is to sail that day for Wanganui. From the latter port she will go to Lyttelton to load for Wellington, where she is due on Tuesday next. Tho vessel will sail for the south tho Bamo day. The necessity for having proper firo extinguishing appliances installed on all seagoing vessels has, says an Australian exchange, lately been made apparent, several outbreaks of lire having occurred on ships whilst, in Australian waters. In .Melbourne fire pumps were somo time ago installed 011 tho tug J. A. Boyd, and on another vessel controlled by tho Molbourno Harbour Trust, and a new direct, action pump, capable of throwing IMO gallons of water a minute, on a, prciwuro of 1001b. has now been placed on tho launch Commissioner. The Badcu Fowell is due this afternoon from Lyttelton-, and after discharge of a general cargo is to sail to-night tor Pupouga to load coal for Lyttelton._ From the Canterbury port the vessel will come to Wellington. The Manourika sailed at midnight For Picton to load chaff for Wellington, where Bfie is due to-night-. To-morrow at 5 p'.tn. the vessel will sail for Westport and Ctreymouth, omitting Nelson on the down trip, but, calling there as is usual on her Teturn from the Coast. The Huia sailed last evening for Wanganui, and is due back to-morrow. She is to sail tho same day for Wanganui and New Plymouth. The Himitangl left Inst, night, for Lyttelton. where she will load for Wellington, arriving here on Thursday. She will sail tho same day back to tho southern nort. The colliers Kamo for Greymonth and Koniata for Westpcirt will leave Wellington t.n.dav.
The auxiliary tcow Magic will sail for Blenheim to-day, taking a load of eaucoil. A quantity of general cargo will bo l'ocoivcd until noon. Tho scow will return to ■Wellington, unci -will sail for Sandy Bay to ioa<i stone for this port. Messrs. J. Campbell and Co., Street, are tho local agents. Tho Hinomoa, on her way rip the coast, landed stores at East Cape on Saturday, and at Cuvier Island yesterday. She arrived at Auckland at 6.30 o'clock last evening, and will take in more stores, etc., to-day. To-morrow tho vessel will continue her trip. After spending tho week-end in Cook Strait the Amokura arrived in port yesterday afternoon. This morning a number of now boys will join tho ship, and the will sail for Cook Strait to cruise round until two hawse-pipes arc brought from , Dunedta.
