The city waterworks overseer's report on the Kaiwarra water supply, and tho engineer's report thereon were held for consideration at next meeting of the council. A letter was, received from Mrs. F. Tho lit®, secretary of the-Ngaio School Committee wrote asking for repairs to be made to the footway giving access to the school. It was admitted by several councillors that the footway was in. a deplorable condition, but it was contended that the work was the concern of'the. Education Board, and it was decided to inform tho School Committee to that' effect. The District Health Officer wrote stating that the present system of drainage in the Onslow Borough could not be considered satisfactory, and that the only permanent remedy is the provision of a proper drainage scheme. It was decided to acquire a piece of land-for ,£6O to junction Glen Road with Tennis Road. In accordance with notice of motion, Councillor Tucker moved: "That in view of the extremely unsatisfactory reply of the Superintendent of Telegraphs to tho request for the installation of a slot telephone in Ngaio, a deputation, consisting of His Worship the Mayor and the councillors of the Ngaio Ward wait on the Postmaster-General and point out the vital necessity of such a telephone for Ngaio." This was seconded by Councillor Topp and carried. Councillor Tucker called attention to the amount of sickness in the borough, and suggested that the free nise of disinfectant would go a long way towards bringing about' an improvement. Disinfectants were rather expensive just now, and bo suggested that the council should buy the disinfectants.in 'wholesale quantities and retail saino at a cheap price to the residents. This course, he pointed out, had been adopted by other boroughs with very great success. A committee was appointed to deal with the matter. , The draft lease of the catchment area was read and approved by the council.
