"ONCE-OVER" TILLER
PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION. At Minimal' on Saturday afternoon a practical demonstration was given of the latest American invention in farm machinery. The "once-over" tiller, the invention in question, is manufactured in Minneapolis, and the machine exhibited on Saturday was 'imported by Messrs. Hope Gibbons, Sons and J. B. Clarkson, Ltd. The machine is quite a new affair, and was only seen in England for the first time in .Tuly last. At tho demonstraj lion there was quito a representative gathering. His Excellency the GovernorGeneral and ihe Countess of Liverpool were present, as also were the Minister of Finance (Sir Joseph Ward), tho Minister of Agriculture' \thc Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald), and representatives of leading business firms in touch with farmers, engineers, experienced fanners, and practical ploughmen. ! The principle on which the "once-over" works is simple. It is a rotary tiller, and consists of a standard American Bulky, plough, horse-drawn, and with a seat provided for the ploughman. Alongside the ploughshare is a vertical pulveriser, that is a number of knives after the style of a sausage-mincer. As tho plough turns up the soil it falls against the rotating knives which pulverise it.. The pulveriser is worked by a motor maehinp, and the horses have merely to draw the plough along. For this new machine it is claimed that its operations are the equivalent of ploughing, cultivating, and harrowing the laud in one operation. On Saturday the pulveriser was | hampered by the sods 011 grass land, but 1 on stubble land it. did excellent work, j Sir Joseph .Ward acted as plough-1 man for once rmmd the nnddock. and was filmed bv the Picture Sunplies Company.
