The .: evidence, was similar to that at' the Coroner's inquest, where a Terdiot equivalent to wilful murder was returned. Witnesses stated that Bennier -was. aqi'icted' to • drink, and was ..not on friendly terms with his -wife ..owing to his .drinking habits. ,\ •■-.■■'■,.... -. Sergeant. Bourke. said that on one occasion Bennier. when, slightly under lhe influence, of. liquor, called at tho police station,- to a-sk-for police assistance to make his wife return to him.
