. ♦ , TECHNOLOGICAL SECTION MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Tech2iological Section of the Philosophical Society was held in tho Museum last evening, Air. F. W. Furkcrt presiding. The report for the past session, which was very satisfactory, was adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Chairman, Mr. 8. W. Jenkinfion; vice-chairmen, Messrs. E. Pac«y mill W. S. Ln Trobe; committee, Professor Clarke, Dr. Maclauriu, Messrs. B. W. Holmes. H. Slaiiden, and F. W. Furkert; secretary, Mr. A. Pat-tei-sou. Professor Clarke read an interesting paper on ,the "Analysis of Crystals by of .X-rays.'? This is a. recent important development of physical chemistry, which enables the atomic structure of" crystalline materials to be determined nnd measured. He exhibited some fine models of the most simple arrangements in wlfich the atoms of various common crystals arrange themselves, and dent the almost indecent familiarity with which the modern r-eientist dissects tlie ultimate formation of matter. Professor Easterfield exhibited some instances of corrosion caused by mineral waters on iron and bronze parts of pumps. Mr. S. 11. Jcnkinson explained some turning movement diagrams (Wived from various arrangements of multiple cylin<W cuiTines. ■ and Mr. TG. Parry spoke about tlie' troubles of insulating high pressure electric power lines nnd blamed the unequal vitrification of the modern porcelain insulator for the difficulties that occurred sometimes.
