An illustration of how easily a dangerous vegetable pest may be introduced into a country was furnished by a discovery made some weeks ago by the "Federal quarantine officer at Brisbane. When a Customs officer was going through the parcels from the American mails ho noticed a paper containing butterflies, sent as an advertisement, ivith burrs fastened to them. The quarantine officer found the burr was a noxious plant known as burdock, the importation of which is prohibited. It is a particularly bad weed. Tim burrs wore all full ot seeds capable of germinating. 'Jlin chief qimniuLinc officer in Melbourne has bran notified and Hie burrs have 'been destroyed.
