CHARLEY'S AUNT CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING. The second annual report of (he "Charley's Aunt" Chlb, presented at last evening's meeting, is as follows:—"Tho members are to be congratulated upon the successful financial standing of tho club. At tho commencement of the eeason there was a credit balance in the orofit and loss account of J;18 is. Bd.; this year, after writing off *£24 12s. 9d;, our profit and loss account shows a-credit balance of ,£3l 10s. sd. At the commencement of the season the club had a membership of 108. At JJie present lime our membership stands at 188, with every prospect of a further large increaso during the coining season. During last season the club's finances benefited to the extent of £38 a"s a result of a performance of "Charley's Aunt" by the Dramatic Club, but this year we have had no income of a similar nature. The club is indebted to various members for specific services, ami I he tointnittee desires particularly to mention Mr. F. Thomas, accompanist, ami his orchestra, who hare devoted much time and trouble to the work. Tt is also desired to specially thank the lady members of the eommitlee for the arduous duties they hnvoxperforined in attending to the refreshments, and Mr. E. 11. Cavell for his services in'arranging the supply of programmes, notices, circulars, and assisting with the accountancy work in connection with the club. During the year eighteen performances have been given. The varied characters of the programmes , has proved that the clab has amongst its members no small. tnmrnnt of genuine ability. Thirteen comediettas we're staged during the season. Performers have at times liad the assistance of visitors and artists passing through the city, to whom the committee returns its thanks on behalf of the club for the pleasure they have given. The task oKpreparing_ the programmes has been in the capable hands of Mr. Norman .Aitken, and the committee desires to compliment him on the success that has attended his efforts. Tho club arranged during the season n relief concert in aid of HiP v Fitzg«ralil fanrily, which realised .£251 lCs., and also" a concert in aid of Mr.. Bentley Russell, which realised ,£7O. They have also assisted in patriotic mutters, having jrecenlly raised an amount of ,8113 in conneciinn with the Paddy's' Market fair; whilst lady members of the club also assisted the commercial travellers' effort and disposed of a large number of surprise packets. Members ' hnve at various times assisted in entertaining soldiers in camp by illeane of concerts, and have nlso assisted in functions organised for patriotic purposes by other bodies.
