Detailed accounts are given to-day of the splendid British victory in Flanders. The ground gained on the Passchendiiele Ridge and elsewhere has bfen everywhere maintained and consolidated, and more than 4400 prisoners are now in British hands. A . number of correspondents comment on the gallantry of the New Zcalanders, who gained a footing on the highest ground of the Passchendaele Ridge, and, along with another division, captured two thousand prisoners. In the course of an interesting speech on the war outlook, General Smuts declares that the submarine has ceased to ho a decisive factor. Ho also predicts a great aerial offensive against Germany. A London message quotes the naval authorities as stating that more submarines were sunk during the past three months than in any previous quarter.
