COST OF LIVING
COMMITTEE TO REPORT SOON. It had been expected that tho Cost of Living Committee would present ils report to (Jie House this evening, but it is probable that owing to the death of the Hon. J.'D. Ormond 110 business will be taken at the fitting. In any case, as the committee is going on to take more evidence, this report can bo only an interim report. It is understood that tho oommittee will make some interesting recommendations, but that there is likely to be considerable difference of opinion as to whether the proposals are practicable or not. There is a suggestion that the committee is in favour of tho appointment of a Food Controller in this country, and this proposal certainly will not bo favoured by all members of the House. It is extremely likely that tho Ministry will be opposed to it. It may be assumed that there will be considerable discussion on the presentation of tho report in tho House.
