Finance and Property. The following recommendations of tne. Finance and I'roperly Committee were approved ;— "That tho Society for tho Prevention, of Cruelty to Animals he grunted a subsidy of .to for the current year, and also be informed (liar. llus grant must not be looked upon as an annual subsidy. "That small street improvements bo effected at Sar Street, alsu that the applicants for the work be informed that as soon as a footpath is constructed in the street they will bo required to construct a crossing of Iho regulation typo over same. "That an extension of Ihe water and sewerage system be laid to a portion of Highland Park Estate as soon, as the labour and materials are available. "That a request has been received from tho proprietors of*certain motor buses plying for hiro \along the Hnt-t Boad for a reduction in the license fee charged for such vehicles, viz.: Stage carriages, -t'2o per annum. The. committee have to recommend that under tile special circumstances arising out of the curtailment of the railway service, tho fee be reduced to «£5 per annum. "That they have granted the Amalgamated Society of Engineers and' the Scottish Society and Pipe Band the free use of the Concert Chamber for a benefit in aid of the widow and children of one of their members, subject to the whole of the • proceeds going to the -widow and children.
Outlying Districts. ■ The following recommendations of too Outlying Districts Committee were agreect. to:"That the Eoseneath School Committee be informed that the council will construct an enhance from the footway in JCaido Vale Jk>ad to the school gate when the war memorial on the road reservation is practically comijlcted. "That the renewed application for permission to occupy a portion of the unformed road reserve at the corner of Tirangi and Seatonn Eoads he refused, in terms of the council's previous decision. "That the City Engineer be instructed to form, channel, and gravel a portion of the right-of-way between Mitchell and Karepa Streets, Brooklyn, such cost not to exceed ,£25. This sum was lodged by the original owners of the property for the construction of tie way, but the amount is inadequate for the formation, etc., of the whole way. The portion of the way to oe formed is the only portion of the access at present used by residents, and it is estimated that £25 will provide a. fair pathway. "That the City Engineer lie authorised to widen out the channel and repair the ■surface of a private road off Wilton Road. AVadestoivn, as he considers necessary."
