WELLINGTON GIRLS' COLLEGE
Sir,—ln The Dominion's leport on Tuesday last of &nuo observations J. made. on the subject of the teaching of domesvie science in the Wellington Girls' College, i. am reported as describing tlio «illego as an out-of-date institution and the teaching therein as unsatisfactory. What .1 described as out-of-date was the old building itself, and my object was to show that this fact, and the overcrowding, was prejudicing the satisfactory imparting of education at the college.' Tho teaching in the institution is of a very high standard, notwithstanding the cramped condition of the buildings and playground, and (he consequent overcrowding. The college is suffering very niuclT from the saute starvation as the Technical School. The .governors have not tho money lo supply adequate buildings, and the Government has refrained from supplying the funds necessary for the erection of additions lo meet tho needs of the largo and increasing number of girls, chiefly free pupils from the primary schools, presenting themselves for admission year by year.—l am, etc., W. H. FIELD. Wellington, October 4, 1917.
