"Tho Waikato River is exceptional among the rivers of the world, in that in no other river is such a large quantity of fine sand brought down, said Mr. Ashley Hunter at the sitting of the Waikato Tiiver Commission in Auckland. Mr. Hunter stated that he had :ome to tho conclusion that at least 2,000,000 cubic yards of sand came down the Waikato every year. Tho quantity n;;ght bo even double that amount.
