HOW LTIDENDORFF APPEASED A BERLIN TEACH CROWD.
The Zurich correspondent of the "Giornule d'.ttalia" has learned from Berlin the true story ot :i significant adventure uiet with in the Wilholnistrasse by Weld-Marshal von J-hnden-bur» and General vou Ludendorlf, this story showing that Ihe account passed l>y the German Censor at the linio was far from-conforming with the actual facts. ll> seems that Uindcnbuvg and Ludendorlfe were being- conveyed by motor-car along the Wilhelmstrasse on their way to a conference with the Reichstag party leaders, when a. great crowd of excited people brpite through, the police cordon and surrounded the car crying, •'Teace, peace! Give us peace!" ~,- • , Tlindenburg, pic with emotion and evidently alarmed, stood mp in the car, and with gestures of his hands, tried to stop the angry shouts of the crowd. Ludendorlf then addressed a tew words to the throng, urging them ro bo calm and-brave. An old man, in a trembling voice, said: "Give us, Excellency, a good peace, and give it ns soon. ro this Hiudenburg replied- "We will give t you—the best peace." "When, when?" the crowd shouted. Ludendorlf, in his turn, answered: "Ouicklv-before the autumn; you, may be certain of that." These assurances seemed to satisfy the crowd, which melted away, and the military chiefs were able to proceed.
