For 6onio time past British.soldiers have beon provided with a chain steel visor for the protection of their eyes. It is the invention of a London oculist, who in a leaflet distributed ft officers eays: "The etee* chain visor is now being atlached to all steel helmets, and I have been requested to describe briefly the reasons for its adoption} and the manner in which it is to bo worn. The purpose for which the. steel chain visor has been designed and added to the equipment of the soldior is to limit the amount of. preventable blindness.' An oxceedin?ly high proportion of blindness is preventable. It is the unanimous opinion of experts that the chain visor will .ifford the same measure of protection againeb injuries to the eyes that the steel helmet affords against injuries to the head, witix this difference, that an injury, which, m the case of tho head would be trivial, in. the case of the eye would be fatal to., the sight." Hitherto there has tan a difficulty in persuading the men to veafl it. They complain that it hinders them in bayonet fighting, and it is also suspected that the men think the visor makes them look like guys. Arrangements have been mode to deport all the Germans from Liberia. Zinc money will shortly be minted in Germany to replace silver and nickel coins.
