Chlttlo nsked to bo tried by a, jury in the Supreme Court, and on the application of Inspeolor Marsack a remand for a week "Nicholas Curran, charged with indecent, assault on three boys, was further remanded for a week. George William Olark was charged that,, being a member ot the First Division, ho did fail to make application to enrol, also that, being a. reservist, without thp consent of the Minister of Internal Affairs, he did assume tho name of George Parker. Accused pleaded cuilty to both charges. When approached by the police accused said he had registered as a member-of the Second Division, and later admitted he was not enrolled. Tho man camo from Auckland, where he went under tho ramc of G W Clarke, and in Wellington he gave the name of George Parker. Cn the first charge he wns convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon and on. tho second he was convicted and fined £10, in default two months' imprißonnient. , An old man named James 'Rhodes, who appeared on remand, charged with being an idle and disorderly person in that he possessed insufficient lawful means of support, was convicted and ordered to como tip for sentenco when -called upon, conditionally that ho enters the Ohiro Home and stays there. A remand' for a week at her own request was granted in tho case of Mary Hargraves, charged with loitering in a public place for. immoral purposes, bhe pleaded not guilty to the charge. For insobriety, Louisa Maitland. was fined Z05.. in default eeven days' imprisonment.' and three first offenders were dealt vrith in the usual lenient manner. John Sturrock Eobliie appeared on remand, before Mr. W. G. Riddell, R.H.. to answer a charge of using obscene language. When he was before the Court a week previously, Hobbio statod that ho ' wished to be tried by a. jury, but yesterday he elected to be dealt, with by the Magistrate, lie pleaded not guilty. The co'nstablo who arrested him and the barman of the Albert Hotel gave evidence as to tho language having been used.. Accused was convicted and fined £3. in default, fourteen days' imprisonment.
